- When the ligament or tendon is stretched beyond its normal range a sprain/strain can occur. After an exam by your physician your doctor will immobilize the joint by an elastic bandage, splint or cast. This will protect the joint from further injury. In some cases surgery may be necessary.
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a problem which affects the wrist and hand. The carpal tunnel is a narrow space inside the wrist. This space lets certain tendons and a major nerve pass from the forearm into the hand. With CTS the tendon sheath may thicken and enlarge which reduces the amount of space inside the carpal tunnel. This results in the median nerve becoming compressed. This leads to tingling, numbness or other symptoms. To confirm you diagnosis you may have certain tests. Non surgical options include taking ibuprofen or prescription medication, cortisone injections or wearing a splint at bedtime. If symptoms are severe or no other treatment brings relief the doctor may suggest surgery.
